I hear so often— I have a nice camera; I don’t need a photographer. Or, my phone takes great pictures! Or, I’ll just have my uncle take pictures.

These things are partially true.

A nice camera is helpful…if you know how to set your ISO, aperture, shutter speed, compose a photograph, pose people (seriously, so much harder than you’d think!), on and on. But a nice camera is just a part of the equation.

A professional photographer knows how to:

- work with light so you don’t have harsh shadows on your face
- pose people so you look comfortable and not stiff
- handle uncooperative children (bribes and silly noises for the win!)
- monitor camera settings as the light and environment changes
- take a variety of shots at different angles so you always look your best
- capture those in between posed picture moments of love and silliness that best represent your family

And then after the session, a professional photographer will cull the images making sure you receive photographs that are in focus, properly composed, and balanced. Each image will then be cleaned up and edited using professional software.

In the example below, I removed the light above the woman’s head, smoothed out skin, edited the lighting, and sharpened their eyes.
